National Guard Cycling History
Freedom – the feeling you had when you first learned to ride your bicycle.  You could go anywhere!!  Riding with your friends made some of the best memories from your youth.

Cycling provides people with a sense of freedom and is an activity in which the whole family can participate!  National Guard Cycling (NGC) was established in 2007 for that very reason.  NGC believes that cycling can not only strengthen family bonds, but also bring military families together to form a stronger military community that shares common interests.

We encourage any National Guard service member, spouse, dependant, retiree, and/or contractor to join NGC regardless of your experience or ability level!  NGC participates in the wide variety of  events/races that take place in local region(s).  The main focus is to have fun and to bring awareness to the National Guard as members cycle through the very communities where we live, work, and play.

Family Activity – Cycling is an activity in which the whole family can participate!  It provides a venue where the family can observe their community from their bike seat while having fun and strengthening the family unit!

Support Network -  NGC brings together families that share common interests. NGC aims to create a support system for the families of deployed soldiers and airmen to rely upon in the absence of their loved ones.  This sets the stage for friendships between families to grow and foster a strong support network.  This is critical now more than ever!  Deployment cycles requires service members to deploy for various lengths of time, sometimes for a year or more!

Healthy Lifestyle – Cycling is an activity that is healthy for everyone!  It is an excellent low impact, cardio-vascular exercise.  While spinning the pedals, NGC members not only receive a great workout, but also promote a healthy lifestyle for the National Guard!

Recruiting Tool — When wearing the NGC  jersey and pedaling through the streets, members are moving billboards for the National Guard.  The National Guard is always looking for new service members and this is an excellent means to do just that.

National Guard Pride — Whether you are out for a leisurely ride, participating in a NGC ride, or taking part in an official cycling event, NGC members are promoting the National Guard. This brings positive awareness to the National Guard, to families and to the community!

Most of all - cycling is FUN!!
